Matching Issues

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Tuesday, November 07, 2006
Some things in college life have left me skeptical or should I call them issues that make my jaws hit the ground ?
After already mentioning the amount of metal (a.k.a junk jewelry) on girls in a previous post, the issue that has me pondering now is of synchronous colors ! Seems like the "matching- matching" fever would never leave the city. Everything from the hair clip to the footwear seems to be of the same color as their clothes. To top it all, some even go to the extent of wearing the same shade of nail polish and lipstick and if possible and considering availability, flowers too! Have I mentioned that how strong perfumes and fragrances put me off ?
On questioning a patient (read as college going girl) why she was holding her books in her hands, she claimed to not own a bag matching her clothes ! Hmph ! I mean, how can they do it every single day ?!?
I don't say that its wrong to get dressed up.But shouldn't one keep the place and occasion in mind? And that doesn't mean that I don't like to apply make up or am against color cosmetics. I don't feign to be plain Jane either. I admit, I feel incomplete without my eyes darkened with that line of kajal or kohl and would never miss it every morning.
Well, to wrap it up in a nutshell - I seek beauty in simplicity !

Am pretty amused to read all this coming from a girl ! And I totally agree, one must dress up according to the environment !

You should be knowing about girls much better than I do :) There are many things that girls do which I feel like questioning, like this, Why wear high heels when you know its bad for the back :)

You know corporate etiquette's cite high heels as the appropriate footwear for work or formal functions - its a pain id love to wear flats all the time - but i cant - so whose helping to change this rule?

carrying books in hand coz theres no matching bag? yikes

Oh girl, I totally agree !! I mean everyday is just too much !
I wish all of them get blisters on their face !
And yea, applying make up to look more natural is a good idea ain't it? ;) Remember?

there was a Murphy's law i guess " the more the makeup the bad the looks"

I'm guilty of the very thing you talk about.Well, perhaps not as obsessive, but a bit paranoid, yesh. The paranoia extends only to accessories, mind you.Wouldn't be caught dead with lipstick on.

Anyway, the point I wanted to make is..atleast personally..it isn't as much attention seeking as it is to feel good about oneself..you might argue that there are other ways to feel good about myself, but, yeah, well,it's a subjective thing.

And,oh yes,accessories can be simple too,btw.:D

=D

Am a LJ user, just hopped outta there, well yes there is always an extent to do things. Overdoing it and esp in the case u've mentioned- All i can say is-
"Idhu too much machi!"
Nice blog btw!

I agree Ramya.

**I don't say that its wrong to get dressed up.But shouldn't one keep the place and occasion in mind?

girls should always dress with the place and occasion in mind. I have seen so many over-dressed girls and it's a joke to watch em. I read somewhere that when u step out the house, take one accessory off yourself and u will look more fashionable. So, less is beautiful and hip.

Keshi.

oi.. glad i found your blog..
track me down n guess who!!!

love ya!!

We all need something to laugh at and girls in matching nail-polish have always helped.

Oh and being a woman is a lot of pain. High heels are just one of them so stop complaining the rest of you.

Thanks so much for the visit to my blog...and your wonderful comment!

A very good post!
I agree with beauty in simplicity!

Have a great day!

Margie:)

"its aaal very subjective" yes.

nevertheless, it wouldn't look too good - a green baggy on blue tee with pink lipstick, red nailcolor, yellow sandals, would it?

don't think you do it too? ( even with the kajal on? )

What would be your assessment of this picture: This is REAL not fiction. A woman in her 60s presenting herself in this manner: if she wears a royal blue and yellow outfit, she wears plastic yellow rings with purple glass rings, along with purple and yellow earrings, purple floppies with yeallow plastic flowers sticking out from her toe. Her bangles mixed in these two colours. Then she hangs a huge tote bag around her arm, and a cotton hat with a huge rim frilled with the two dazzling colours. When people stop her to say she looks so cute, she glows with a demure smile, and pretends to fix something on her. Her sense of "style" always manifests in this manner whether she wears black and white, of blue or any other colour --- head to toe matching or "synchronizing" --- coming out on the street as a walking billboard.
