Strange

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Saturday, August 02, 2008 in ,
The title explains exactly the feeling that I am experiencing currently.

Today, I'm done with my 7th semester officially ! (You needn't gasp!) Yes ! We've had exactly 40 working days ! But the whole finality of college ending and no more lectures(just project in the final sem) brings this feeling which I really can't decipher. Its not of sentiment I am sure. I am definitely happy to be done with this. I still can't exactly pinpoint what I am going through.

The only thing I have left, is to deal with the syndrome of growing up and pretending to act more mature while I still am not ready for it. The big bad world beckons !

Confessions

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Tuesday, July 03, 2007 in
When I joined college 2 years back, I loathed the place more than anyone could ever imagine. The moment I sat in my class and looked around at all the dejected faces, I asked myself- What the heck am I doing here? Despite so many people being nice to me, I had my mind closed and didn't even make an attempt to adapt myself to the place. I was simply refusing to change and accustom myself to a new environment. I started falling into the bottomless pit of self-pity and started believing that it was fate that brought me here by mistake and I'd have to serve in this penitentiary for the next 4 years.
Ironically I kept chanting "Change is good" at the same time.
The truth struck me hard in the face soon and when I really opened my eyes to face reality, things didn't seem as bad as I had "seen". Not that I'm in love with the place overnight, but then I'm not really unhappy either. It definitely is all in the attic that you carry on your shoulders.
If happiness is what you want to see, that's what you will see.
I'm glad I learnt it now at least. Better late than never !
Maybe, somewhere down memory lane, I might actually miss college, its people, the sad white buildings, the food, the long bus rides.....
I can't believe that I actually said it ! :O

College Knowledge

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 in
Bhargavi takes revenge by asking me to list out 10 things I hate about my college !

1) I've never seen the sunrise ever in my life. Commuting by the college bus has made me rise before the sun of lately!
2) The bus rides every morning and evening make me think if I would return home in one piece or return ever at all !
3) The mess food, the unclean plates and glasses have infestations that could give a creative mind lots of food for thought. And ya, we have no canteen !!
4) The barren campus, with absolutely no greenery !! Even the fauna is scared to flourish there !
5) The staff, whose vocabulary comprises only of "what" "y" "right" and "test on tomorrow" !
6) The students, who think they have the biggest attitudes in the world, but are nothing less than a bunch of snobbish dud-heads who steal stationary and money even after paying heavy donations to get a seat!
7) The rules, that deny basic human rights itself !
8) The sudden appearances of a bunch of maniacs who simply slip their hands into your bag to check for mobile phones and other censored property amongst the many forbidden within the campus!

I don't really need any more reasons to hate my college !
I've gotten used to the monotonous & moribund schedule for the last 2 years, another 2 will not make much of a difference to me ! :D

I tag Kausik , VBK & Ramanujam !

Of labs and lights

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 in
The last fortnight of the semesters are usually hectic, with every laboratory staff demanding for the record and observation book to be signed. Sounds simple if you're not the procrastinating types. I'm in the last lap of my record-a-thon. Finally my room is not zooming with A4 sheets anymore. And I don't have any brothers like Sagaro who'd offer a hand atleast at drawing those boxes in the microprocessor record! (hmph!)
The most dreaded, uninvited exams commence in about 3 week's time and the rate of my cribbing would touch its zenith in a week atleast ! So, I'll give you all some peace and not post anything until the kids next door stop bursting crackers !
Anyways let's look at the brighter end of week. Diwali of course ! No lectures on Child labour ! (Do buy crackers- atleast the kids would get the money for all those nauseous toxins they work hours with, to give us those few seconds of happiness !)
I'd like to wish everyone reading this a colorful, prosperous and a happy diwali !
I'll bug you all after diwali, till then, eat all the sweets you can and get fat.

Rang De

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Friday, March 17, 2006 in
Thanks people, All your wishes have materialized atleast momentarily for me !
Today's exam was cancelled and tomorrow has been declared a holiday. (Yaaay! ) I feel better too. Is that a silver lining in the clouds ??
Now I hope that I don't have 3 exams on Monday!

In the midst of all those exams and over-worked schedule of mine, I found time to play around with some colors. Yup! Holi celebrations with friends and neighbours. I wasn't able to play for long, but I managed to get my blue shirt, face, hands, nails and ears turn pink.
I've tried my best to scrub it all out, but as always it takes 3 days or more.

Like whatever King Midas touched, turned into gold.... that day whatever I touched turned pink, which includes my neighbour's cute little doggie too!!

Hectic

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Thursday, March 16, 2006 in
Almost 12 hours at college
Mid-term exams after college hours on consecutive days
5 hours of sleep
A sore throat
Fever
Experience is all that I have to gain withstanding all this.

Life just ain't just too rosy at this moment !
The times ahead will bring better moments.... I hope!

Back?

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Sunday, March 12, 2006 in
After a week long of what was called self-deserved leave. I'm going back to college tomorrow. The next few weeks are going to be really hectic and with my 1st year of engineering coming to an end with mid-May, I'm just too glad to be getting rid of a lot unwanted theory papers.
Just to chronicle all those agonizing moments with
*Useless Engineering Drawing in Semester one
*Boring Enivronmental Engg in Semester two that proved as Poetry writing sessions for me
*Complex Circuit Theory
*Bidding Physics and Chemistry adieu with this sem. yaay!
*I hate Math syndrome continues
All classes are going to be resumed in full swing, so posts might become irregular. Oh! how I wish I could let this moment last forever.
Do take care of my blog and shoutbox.

Cultural 06

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Saturday, February 11, 2006 in
The busy days have finally come to an end. When have good things lasted long? Hmph!
I witnessed my first ever college- level cultural show yesterday. It was our college culturals and unlike the other institutions, we compete between our own departments. The competition is on par as the population is pretty large with more than 15 departments. Each department is given 40 mins to showcase their talent. There are the Highlight Performances apart from that, which is supposed to be the best.
We, the freshers perform as a separate team and are always the 1st to perform. That always gives us an advantage to look at the rest of the show uninterrupted.
I must say, the stage was simply mind-blowing, the DJ playing Fanaa in between performances, and the list of the chief guests was exciting as always. Gracing the occassion with their presence were the following stars-
1) Grace Karunas with her Seena thaana had the crowd dancing and screaming for more.
2) Srikanth who said that he didn't even attend his own college's culturals and came to ours.
3) Suchitra, who sang a fusion of all her songs and wrapped up with the cliched "Semma hot machi "
4) Chinni Jayanth who sang Aalavandhan, his 1st musical debut on a stage and of course he mimicked Rajni and Kamal.
5) And finally a bear like Dhanush, who passed on the words of wisdom given to him by Superstar.

The show began at 8.30 in the morning and went non-stop and ended at 10 at night. Atleast for me it worth all the tiring hours through the week as my department won the overall championship and also the Most Creative Performance Title. It sure was a delightful moment when they announced that -
"The Department of Information Technology wins the Overall Championship for the third consecutive year"
Screams, Howls, Whistles, Drumrolls, Claps and the numerous voices that cheered and yet were heard as one.

Countdown

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 in
Prudent thoughts creep into my mind, now that college reopens in a couple of days. With the books putting on weight as I climb the next rung of engineering, I delve into my shelf for the hall ticket. All unfinished tasks are remembered now, and with a solo performance from mom every morning on the procrastination theme, things don't seem to get better !
Trepidation creeps in as I read those little words printed
"Results will be announced on the reopening day"

Grrr... updated

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Monday, December 05, 2005 in
"The University declares holiday on 05-12-05 due to heavy rains. "
Yaay!! It should read, The university declares holiday because it needs time to surface from underwater.

"06-12-05 Tuesday will be a working day. "
Oh no!!

"The University exam to be held on 06-12-05 will be conducted as per the exam schedule. The reschedule dates for the cancelled examination will be announced on Tuesday. "

The best part is that I don't have an exam tomorrow. So that means...
Waking up at 5:30 am
Wading through that icky water.
Wandering about in the campus till they announce the dates for my exam that was supposed to be held today.

What a day!!! It just got better... yaay
Called up the admin dept of my college just now

Admin: Hello
Me: Anna, naliki college varanumaa?
Admin: Enna department?
Me: I.T
Admin: Vendam ma, varaadhey...
Me: Nejamaava?? Aha! Thanks anna, neenga sollatiyum, naa varadha illai
And to contemplate on the day, it wasnt all that bad.

In memory of....

In memory of all those students who were waiting for the bell to ring.....

The brain is such a complex thing to understand.
It functions 365 days in a year
7 days a week
24 hours everyday
but
.
.
.
.

.
.
stops functioning the moment we enter the examination hall.

Yeah ! (updated)

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Saturday, November 26, 2005 in
Yeah ppl.. Another template change.! Now this one has a proper reason... or atleast I try my best to justify it.

Reason no.1 - It reflects my current state of mind i.e before the exams. (White and blank)

Reason no.2 - As I turn into a major in another 12 days...((Dont hunt for the calender its Dec 8)) I thought my blog must try to look a bit more mature...

Reason no.3 - Words will add color to my template...

Reason no.4 - Alright.......I was bored ! Thought of playing around with some other template. I seem to be giving a slight complex to the chameleons.

I better get back to my book now.... now this didnt take long... (sigh)!

updated on 29th Nov 2005
I go for my 1st semester exam tomorrow... wish me luck fellas!!! And I need special prayers for E.D on 3rd December!! Please!

Rain Reloaded

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 in
Chennaites were only too happy to experience the sun after a long wait, and yeah, I found quite a number of blogs requesting the Sun to shine back. But then it didnt last long.... yeah Mr.Rain is back, lashing the city once again. And to top it all, I had my Model Exams.
My college that was already half-submerged in the rains that struck a few days back, had just managed to float back to its surface. But now..... back to square one!
The best part was on the day I had my E.D model exam.(going by the comments of the previous post, nobody seems to like it)
6:40 am
My bus stop :
Waiting for the bus in the rain, trying to juggle my umbrella.. a 5kg drawing board and ofc the drafter.

9:30 am
Examination Hall (E.D)
After spending a worthless 20 minutes on how to change the given diagram to orthographic projection, I gave up all hopes of passing this exam. But then I managed to draw something, that made sense.

10:00 am
Examination hall (E.D)
Alrite, I'm done with the exam. Got one whole hour left. What do I do?? As always I'm sent to the last bench to sit and well... do nothing and not disturb the others who were tugging their hair and "trying to" draw something! After staring at the head of the person before me for a good 10 mins, I got bored and tried looking out at the rain. My campus looked like an island from there.
The next few mins were spent staring at the crows that came sopping wet and sat on the window ledge.
The last 30 mins were no good either. I fell asleep on my drawing board and the invigilator woke me up and asked for my paper that hardly had anything.

11:40 am
Corridor
Yaaaaaaaaayyy!! E.D exam is over and guess what, I dont think it was all that bad. Looks like my chances of passing are bright, but Mr.Rain doesnt seem to get tired at all. Take a break.. will ya??

Engineering Drawing

Posted by Ramya Shankar on Thursday, November 17, 2005 in
My textbook which had a thick layer of dust on it until yesterday defines Engineering Drawing (E.D) as the medium of communication for engineers.
3 months back when I joined this stream, I sure did expect quite a few lifestyle changes. But then the moment this subject was introduced for my department in my university (only from my batch!!), things haven't been... Well.... very pleasant.
This man who fits into my description of Humpty Dumpty, walked into my class 3 months back introducing himself as our E.D professor for this semester. Right from day 1, I didn't have quite an affinity towards the subject. Humpty Dumpty kept encouraging us to explore our creative sides in his class by asking us to draw a few shapes very confusingly put together to form something that quite represented modern art.
He would ask us to draw something which I would do very sincerely, only to find the correct diagram drawn exactly upside down or tilted elsewhere in the book. Ugh! Talk about creativity!
Anyways, I've managed to somehow scrape through my mid-semester, but then the big one (University exam) is fast approaching and only God can help me by making me understand these abstract diagrams in my textbook which would give M.F Hussain a run for his money.
